Lutengano Secondary School
1.0 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF SCHOOL
Lutengano Secondary School was established in 1982 by Moravian Church as an initiative to respond to Government call to Private Institution in providing Education in the Country. The government called Private institution to collaborate with other education stakeholders purposely to help girls and boys who did not get chance to join government schools due to limitation of chances given by the Ministry of Education.
The school started by giving out form four graduates since 1985. It also started enrolling form five in the year 1991. The first batch to graduate for form Six was in 1993. Since its establishment the school has been improving performance with time, except for few years in which minimum performance was experienced, such as in the year 2000 and 2012 for Form II, IV and VI respectively.
The school has good learning environment as it is located at the place where students can narrowly interact with other civilians. The school has also a good reputation such that parents and guardians are convinced to ask and find chances for their children. Moral nurturing process has been considered as an important learning component in fostering intellectual and behavioural growth of our students.
2. SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
The school has managed to undergo renovation of infrastructure and construction of new buildings. In this renovation 13 classrooms were renovated, toilets for both girls’ and boys’ dormitories were constructed, science laboratory was reconstructed and equipped with apparatus and chemicals. Internet service was installed in 2020 and upgraded in 2024. Also, the school bus was purchased. The improvement and renovation of the school started in 2019 – 2023. The renovation of the school has been powered by Educational Partners from German including Herrnhutter Mission Hilfe (HMH), Evangelical Lutheran of Wutternburg and Heiman Foundation.
2. RELEVANCY OF THE SCHOOL.
Since its establishment the school is serving the citizens of this nation who are at the grass root level. The educational service offered at the school is based on equality, equity and gender balance. Students with religious ethnic diversity are received and treated equally. The school being at rural area, outside of Tukuyu Township make to be conducive place for learning activities for our clients. The school has produced many people who are now national and international figures. Therefore, Lutengano will urge to produce more female and males students who will be significant figures to the society in different careers.
The school is very special in serving people with social and economic differences. School environment, academic performance, commitment of working staff, ethics and parental care make the school very special. Due to its nature, the school charges the school fees which is very reasonable and affordable for many students, taking account that many parents cannot afford to take their children to highly pay schools. Until recently, the school is accommodating about 28 students through scholarship schemes from different donors including HMH and Mission 21.

2. PROJECTS
The school is running few income generating projects to support administration costs. It runs the projects including Avocado farm (with about six acres). The fruits from the farm are sold to get fund for school administration, and some fruits are used by students for meal. The school also has the flour milling machine and dairy cows.
3. THREE TOP PRIORITIES OF THE SCHOOL
In order to sustain improved service the school has many priorities including:
a. Improvement of academic performance, this is the first priority of the school as the school inclined itself in educating children from low privileged community and families who cannot get education from high paid schools. Also these children cannot get expected education from government schools where students are congested to the maximum. Lutengano has contributed much to help these children by giving them quality and equity education with maximum performance.
b. Renovation of buildings including boys’ and girls’ dormitories (the existing dormitories are old enough so they need extensive repair like putting new doors, windows, ceiling boards and painting).
c. Improvement of Computer Laboratory, this is important for facilitating online teaching and learning.
d. Renovation of dining Hall (putting new floor, extending windows and painting).
e. Scholarship schemes (this is very important priority because it will give an opportunity to a number of children who have missed opportunity due to economic setback and economic backgrounds. Also, will increase number of students as well will raise the income of school and help the management to run the school in a smooth way including paying salaries on time).

There is also a Biology Lab, a Chemistry Lab and a Computer Lab with approximately 20 computers and a projector. Our huge dining hall can also be used to organise events that require a lot of space. The renovation work at the school library is expected to be finished in October 2019.
